In partnership with key leaders and under the management of Director, Corporate Communications, the Manager, External Communications will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive, integrated external communications strategy that builds and protects the company’s reputation, engages key external stakeholders, and aligns the organization behind a common corporate narrative for external communications. Specifically, this role will:

  • Lead process for press releases, create material, aligning key messaging with stakeholders and releasing to media.

  • Collaborate with key leaders to share and refine the company’s external narrative and execute media relations strategies. Leverage the corporate narrative to clearly communicate the company’s vision and value proposition to global stakeholders and build corporate brand.

  • Brief and counsel management on matters affecting the company’s image.

  • Leverage media to portray a positive and favorable external image for the company and reduce news coverage that negatively depicts the company.

  • Develop communications materials that accurately portray the company.

  • Execute a comprehensive external Communications strategy.

  • Liaise with IR, Legal and business teams to develop and execute issues and crisis management/response teams that minimize disruption to the business.

  • Create and maintain a digital/online engagement strategy and establish a unified policy/approach for social media programs for product brands.

  • Collaborate with the business and BD teams to communicate about BD/M&A activities around the company.

  • Assist in managing and directing public and media relations agency partners to assure maximum impact and assistance in reaching desired communications goals and objectives.

  • Participate as a member of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives and provide messaging support for the annual publication of the company’s CSR report.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Minimum 6 years of communications experience required - including media and/or public relations.

  • Experience in biotechnology, pharmaceutical and health care industry preferred

  • Proven ability to advise, counsel and coach top corporate leaders in a fast-paced environment.

  • Works with a sense of urgency and is a self-starter.

  • Crisis management experience preferred

  • Experience with the use of social media

  • Strong oral and presentation skills; ability to negotiate and persuade

  • Proven writing and communication skills

  • Proven ability to adapt and execute in a challenging and rapidly changing environment

  • Track record of collaboration, with established ability to work cross functionally in a complex matrix management environment

  • Ability to interact with all levels of management and manage staff and vendors

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; enthusiastic, team player and self-starter; serious commitment to hard work and excellence.
